Studies on Rainfall-Runoff Modeling, 6. A Statistical Analysis of Rainfall-Runoff Relationship

Relationships are developed between statistical parameters of annual rainfall and those of annual runoff. The transformation of rainfall into runoff is characterized by (a) a single linear reservoir, (b) a single nonlinear reservoir. These relationships are compared with those available in the literature and can be used to describe the statistical distribution of runoff, given the distribution of rainfall. It is shown that, for larger carryover, the distribution of runoff always tends to be normal regardless of the distribution of rainfall and the nature of transformation process.
